A Dynamic Duo: Meet Firehouse Subs Franchisees Vicky and Brian Eckel

It’s the season of love and in celebration of Valentine’s Day on February 14, we are recognizing some of the outstanding franchisee couples in the Firehouse Subs family. 

Before they joined the Firehouse Subs Family a decade ago, Franchisees Vicky and Brian Eckel first met working on projects together at their corporate jobs. With backgrounds in supply chain and finance, it’s no wonder that this powerhouse duo now own eight award-winning restaurants spanning Central Texas and the Gulf Coast. 

It is said that everything is bigger in Texas – and when it comes to the passion and steadfast commitment that Franchisees Vicky and Brian Eckel have for their family, crew members and restaurants, that is most certainly true. Learn more about Vicky and Brian, how they successfully work together, and what they have planned for their upcoming Valentine’s Day.

What’s your favorite part about working together? 

By knowing the other’s strengths and weaknesses, it helps us clearly define our roles and stretch our boundaries.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about owning and operating a restaurant with your spouse?  

We use a lot of the same “partnership” skills in our business as we do in our marriage. We always work through the challenges together and celebrate the successes together. 

What activities do you enjoy doing together outside of your restaurants?

We enjoy traveling, being with our family, and are always looking for new adventures or outside interests.

What advice do you have for couples who work together?  

Identify and stick to what each of you do well. Listen to and support the other, and make sure to turn it off when you are at home.

What does your ideal Valentine’s Day look like? 

On Valentine’s Day, we typically enjoy dinner or a movie with our daughter; then, after the Valentine’s Day madness, we enjoy a nice dinner out when most restaurants are not crowded.
