F-4 Pilots Turned Firehouse Subs Owner, Meet Larry Richard

In honor of Veterans Day on November 11, we are recognizing and honoring some of our Firehouse Subs franchisees who selflessly served their nation in the United States military. This is part 5 of 6.

Learn about how retired veteran, Larry Richard, tried Firehouse Subs for the first time and never turned back. Larry is an owner and partner of Firehouse Subs restaurants in both Huntsville, Alabama and Augusta, Georgia.

In what branch of the U.S. military did you serve and for how long?

I served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 13 years on active duty and served 13 years with the Reserves.

What was your role in the military?

I was an F-4 pilot. I was also a Topgun Instructor from 1973-1976.

What’s your favorite part about being a military veteran?

The military is like a brotherhood and I am still very close to many of my brothers in arms to this day.

What made you become a Firehouse Subs franchisee?

In 2004, after I retired, my wife and I ate at a Firehouse Subs in Pensacola, FL and because it was so good we decided to look into investing in Firehouse Subs.

Did you learn anything in the military that transfers over to being a restaurant owner? If so, what?

Yes, the leadership training and development of personal relationships definitely transferred to my current business of managing restaurants.

What was your favorite part about serving our country?

I loved working with so many like-minded people - many of which are still my close friends today.

What is your favorite Firehouse Subs sandwich?
