Fairbanks businesses throw food, household goods drive for community food bank

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Four businesses in Fairbanks are throwing a food drive for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank. These businesses include Hedgecock Realty Group, Firehouse Subs, Cold Stone Creamery, and McKinley Orthopedics. The food drive has already begun and it will be going until November 20th.

“[We] just had an idea to help the community and so we worked with the Food Bank to figure out what the needs are and especially during this season of COVID and uncertainty of what that is, just wanting to put together some other business members within our community to meet the needs, whatever the needs might be,” said Marketing Director for Hedgecock Realty Group, Jennifer Thompson.

With many people financially struggling due to COVID 19, the drive will be able to help donate food to those who need it, as well as home-comforts donors could provide such as roasting pans, candles, and other helpful items.

“It’s probably more important than ever this year for the community to come together and ensure that everybody in the community has enough food around the holidays. Kids aren’t in school necessarily, [and] a lot of people are struggling financially as a result of the pandemic. It’s a great opportunity I think at a time when things have maybe been a little more divisive, to show that the community can come together and provide to those in need,” commented Catharine Persinger, Co-owner of Fairbanks Firehouse Subs and Cold Stone Creamery.
