BROOKLYN, Ohio -- Originally scheduled to open mid-spring, the brand-new Firehouse Subs is finally opening its doors Tuesday (July 5) in Brooklyn.

“Since I’ve been here for the last few weeks, people have been trying to come in and eat while we’re drilling and sawing,” said Firehouse Subs franchisee Matt Mikola, who with the opening of the Brooklyn store now co-owns five Firehouse Subs restaurants in the area. “That’s while we weren’t even open, so it’s a pretty good sign.”

Located in a former Menchie’s on a prime corner of the strip mall at 4748 Ridge Road, the roughly 1,400-square-foot Firehouse Subs boasts 20 seats with 15 employees.

“When you’re in the restaurant industry, it’s location, location, location,” Mikola said. “As it comes to visibility, this spot is really great. You can’t pull into Ridge Park Square and not drive past us. That’s definitely a plus.”

The Brooklyn restaurant will be Mikola’s third Cuyahoga County store. He currently has Firehouse Subs locations in Middleburg Heights and Strongsville.

With more than 1,200 locations in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, Firehouse Subs serves a variety of hot specialty subs, piled high with premium meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh daily in restaurant and steamed together to bring out the ingredients’ natural flavors

In addition to its signature subs, the restaurant offers a variety of catering options from sandwich and dessert platters to salads and snacks.

“What differentiates us from other sandwich restaurants out there is we steam our meat, we toast our bread,” Mikola said. “So you’re going to get a hot sandwich.

“We’re not using a grill or a microwave or fryer. So you’re not getting the added grease. It just comes out tasting phenomenal.”
