INTRODUCING PROUD FIREHOUSE SUBS FRANCHISEE AND NAVY VETERAN, SARAH LITTLE

Introducing Proud Firehouse Subs Franchisee and Navy Veteran, Sarah Little
In honor of Veterans Day on November 11, we are recognizing and honoring some of our Firehouse Subs franchisees who selflessly served their nation in the United States military. This is part 4 of 6.
After serving in the Navy for five years, Sarah Little was studying business in hopes of opening her own coffee shop when she stumbled across a Firehouse Subs for sale.
Learn about how Sarah has created a community within her Elizabethtown location and has brought key learnings from the Navy to her life today.
In what branch of the U.S. military did you serve and for how long?
I served in the Navy for five years and my husband, Brandon, served for six. We were in the same unit in Afghanistan with Brandon being a builder for foreign operating bases and I was a heavy equipment operator.
What was your role in the military?
My main role was in heavy equipment operations where I would dispatch equipment out for the unit.
What’s your favorite part about being a military veteran?
There is such a sense of community within Elizabethtown amongst all the veterans and I love being a part of it.
What made you become a Firehouse Subs franchisee?
We honestly got lucky and knew the right people at the right time. I was studying business when I started working at Barnes and Noble and decided I wanted to open my own coffee shop. The broker we were working with knew someone selling a Firehouse Subs restaurant and the rest was history.
I was introduced to Firehouse Subs years ago by a friend from the Navy who was originally from Tampa, FL. I actually remember trying the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket™ during my first restaurant experience.
Did you learn anything in the military that transfers over to being a restaurant owner? If so, what?
Some skills that transferred over were handling diversity, managing a big group of people and overall effective communication with all employees and crew members.
What was your favorite part about serving our country?
I don’t think I have one favorite part. I was just thankful for the whole experience and felt like it was part of my duty. It really opened my horizons and I wish more people would decide to serve our country.
What is your favorite Firehouse Subs sandwich?
Firehouse Steak & Cheese™
