MEET DAKOTA PRUITT: PROUD TULSA CO-FRANCHISEE AND U.S. ARMY STAFF SERGEANT
In honor of Veterans Day on November 11, we at Firehouse Subs are recognizing several of the franchisees who selflessly serve, or have served our nation as members of the U.S. military. Today, we are honored to introduce Dakota Pruitt.
In addition to being the co-owner of a Firehouse Subs restaurant in Catoosa Hills, Oklahoma, Dakota Pruitt is also a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard. Prior to joining the Firehouse Subs family, Dakota and business partner, JP Bell, both served as Army medics. JP has since retired from the military, but Dakota is still bravely providing both the nation and his local community with heartfelt service.
Below, hear from Dakota on how the military continues to inspire versatile leadership techniques and what Veterans Day means to him.
In what branch of the U.S. military do you serve?
I serve in the Army National Guard.
What is your role in the military?
I am a Staff Sergeant in an Army Medical Company. Our function is to deploy and operate Role 2 and Role 1 field hospitals and conduct ambulance operations. We transport soldiers from Casualty Collection Points to higher echelons of care in the theater of operations.
What made you become a Firehouse Subs franchisee?
I really enjoyed the food and I felt like the branding connected well with my personality and background.
What skills did you develop during your military service that prepared you to lead a franchise?
The military has a strong tradition of developing leaders. Leadership in the military requires planning, execution, evaluation and adaptability – which fits perfectly with any business model. Also being able to work well with others, mentor and operate in teams is a cornerstone of military life.
What does Veterans Day mean to you? Is there anything you would like to say to your fellow veterans on this holiday?
Veterans Day for me is a time for soldiers to feel appreciated for the sacrifices they have made to support and protect the country.
Soldiers don’t have set work hours… The mission is constantly changing and many struggle with the challenges of service. Some pay the ultimate sacrifice.
So, I guess I would just say happy Veterans Day and thank you for your service. I know sometimes serving is hard, but you are appreciated.
